Jeyson Rakatoarisoa – Lumina Learning Global Business Delivery
What’s your career background and what is your original connection to Lumina?
After graduating in International Trade, I gained professional experience in customer service. I started my own freelance business where I provided a service to clients in Madagascar and China, where I assisted them with shopping and helping with translations when purchasing products.
After my stint in China, I joined the textile industry as a Shipping and Customer Officer. Around this time, I found out about Lumina Learning on LinkedIn. I liked self-development tools, and I saw that they were in the Learning and Development industry, which drew me in!
What is your top Spark Aspect and how have you found this beneficial to your role?
My top Aspect is Outcome Focused. Being Outcome Focused is beneficial to me as I have to be accountable when working independently and push myself to reach my goals and objectives, especially because relying on other people can delay my projects. Due to my location being in Madagascar, most of my work is done remotely, so this Aspect is beneficial for me.
What is your favourite thing so far about working at Lumina Learning?
My favourite thing is the people and the products. One of the first things that drew me into Lumina was seeing how the products worked. I think every solution is excellent in its own way, and you can really put them into practice in your daily life and at work also! On top of that, I get along really well with all of my colleagues; they have really welcomed me to the team.
Do you have any Paradoxes? How do you see these working in your role – If you don’t have any, what Paradoxes do you think might be useful for you to develop?
My Paradoxes are Outcome Focused and People Focused. Having both of these Aspects helps to get 100 per cent out of my results at work. My People Focused Aspect helps me in times of deadlines. I can communicate with a lot of people to collaborate as needed before deadlines. Likewise, my Outcome Focused Aspect helps me reach my goals; I am tough on myself and push myself until I see results.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I spent six years in China studying at Nanjing University. Whilst I was there, I learned to speak Chinese Mandarin. My favourite phrase that I learnt is, ‘Jiù de bu qù xīn de bu lái’; it means, ‘Let old things go and let new things come to you.’
