That’s how our Product Development Lead, Julie Ensor, described the magic that the Lumina Splash app brings to coaching and team development sessions when we spoke to her about the inspiration behind the upgrade launching on 10 November.

With hundreds of people already using the Lumina Splash app as an interactive learning tool to connect the dots between behaviour and performance with memorable experiences, the product team turned to one simple question: How can we make the features more engaging, intuitive, and useful in the moment?

Behind the scenes, Julie and her team worked closely with the Lumina Learning Practitioner Community to bring the vision to life. She shared the journey with us and what you can look forward to in the new release.
 

What inspired the Lumina Splash app upgrade?

Julie: Over the years, we’ve learned a lot from how people use the Lumina Splash app in coaching and team development sessions through several success stories, and we saw this as our opportunity to turn those insights into action. The previous version was already strong, but this upgrade gave us the chance to elevate it with simple, impactful improvements that meet the real needs of practitioners and users.

How have you seen the Lumina Splash app benefit coaching and team development sessions?

Julie: It takes personality insights beyond just a theory on a page and turns it into a meaningful, interactive learning experience. In coaching sessions, it helps ground the conversation in deep yet accessible self-awareness. In team development sessions, it really opens the door to richer discussions, helping people connect, compare, and value different ways of being.
 
People often remark that it is a key highlight of their coaching and team development experience because it’s such a visual and interactive learning tool, often leaving a lasting anchor that people carry back into the workplace.

What is the biggest change people can expect from the Lumina Splash app upgrade?

Julie: The most transformative change is how much smoother and more intuitive the experience feels. Every upgrade, from navigation to visuals, has been about removing friction so practitioners and users can focus on the conversation, not the tech. Features like the enhanced “Share and Compare” or the improved “Splash Gallery” make it easier to spark meaningful conversations, whether you’re coaching one-to-one or delivering a team development session.
 

 

How has feedback from practitioners influenced the changes?

Julie: Feedback from our global practitioner community was central to the final design of the Lumina Splash app upgrade. We invited their insights, observations, and real-world experiences, and those perspectives directly influenced both big and small decisions.
 
One clear example is how they helped refine the wording of key features to make sure the names instantly conveyed what they do. That’s how ‘Splash-O-Matic’ became ‘Draw Custom Splash’ and ‘Speed Reading’ evolved into ‘Taster Splash.’
 
Their feedback also revealed creative ways certain features were being used in coaching and development sessions that we hadn’t originally envisioned, opening our eyes to new possibilities.

What feature changes can practitioners look forward to?

Julie: There are a few feature updates practitioners can be excited about, but the ones that stand out to me are:
 
Taster Splash – This is our quick way to introduce people to their potential strengths and development areas. We refined the questionnaire process to make it smoother and even more visually engaging, so it’s a perfect conversation starter.
 
Share and Compare – One of the most popular features in the app now functions even better. We improved the visuals for when people overlay their personality Splashes, making it that much easier to see ‘who is who’.
 
Draw Custom Splash – We’ve rebranded this feature to make it more intuitive (it used to be called Splash-O-Matic). This feature allows practitioners to illustrate any behavioural style or draw someone’s personality in real time to open playful conversations around the impact and perception of behaviour.
 
Splash Gallery – The gallery has had a major usability lift, making it easier to browse and manage multiple Splashes. Everyone will now have access to the Splash Gallery, whereas before only practitioners had access to it. We also added a search function, so you can quickly find the Splash you need, saving time and keeping the focus on the conversation rather than the doom-scrolling!
 

How do you see the Lumina Splash app evolving in the future?

Julie: We’ll continue to explore ways for Lumina Splash to integrate even more seamlessly across our ecosystem of interactive learning tools, creating richer, more connected learning journeys and coaching and team development sessions.
 
While we’re excited to expand the app’s features, we’re equally mindful of preserving one of its greatest strengths: its simplicity. It’s that simplicity that opens the space to confidently focus on delivering outstanding development experiences packed with valuable depth, which can be difficult when going deeper with Big 5 psychometrics that bring so much data.
 
The Lumina Splash app brings all that data depth for intelligent insight together in an easily digestible way and that will remain central to any future upgrades. Ultimately, our goal for the Lumina Splash app is to remain an interactive learning tool that sparks curiosity, facilitates meaningful conversations, and inspires lasting growth.
